In 2003, Dave moved up to his first big bike, an ageing Suzuki RGV250, good progress was being made, but unfortunatly it was slowed by an accident, which ended the season early. Dave therefore, with great determination purchased a ZXR400, and efforts began to put together a challenge for the 2004 season.
The year began on a Successful note, 2nd place
in the Preston and District Motorcycle Club Rookie race, as the
season unfolded, Dave found himself leading both the Formula 400,
and open rookie classes, win after win followed, and confidence
grew, Dave did a meeting with a larger club at Mallory Park, and
even more wins followed.
Dave finished the 2004 season with 31 podiums, and 20 race wins, and
thus was crowned the 2004 Formula 400 Champion, the Open
Rookie champion, and the Peer of Wigan Champion,
including a club record of a 51.2 second advantage over the
rest of the field!
2005, and the beginning of the year saw Dave enter a few of the Virgin Mobile Cup rounds, and then return to club racing. He retains the R6 and with some modifications, it is now a very capable race bike.
So far, with Preston and District Motorcycle Club, Dave has done very well, with a bike on which he has little experience of the new set-up. 2nd places at the first round he attended, and 3 first places at the second, with a best lap so far of 56.8 seconds, things can only get better.
Northukbikers support Dave in his racing career, he is a great rider, and with the right support, could be a top British Champion. If you feel you can help out, with sponsorship or, publicity, any help would be gratefully received.
